Chapter 8 – Basic Tissues – Lecture Notes
Tissues are a group of closely associated cells that perfom related funcitons and are similar in stuctures.
4 basic types. Each with their own funcitons
Epithelium: sheet of cells that covers a body surface or lines of a body cavity; also form most of the body's glands.
Has cellularity, specialized contacts, polarity, support by connective tissue, Avascular but innervated.
Classified according to shape and thickness. Thickness is either simple or stratified. Shape is either squamous, cubodial, columnar, or pseudostratified.
Connective tissues are derived from Mesenchyme.
The inorganic component of bone matrix consists mainly of 2 salts. These 2 salts interact to form a compound called hydroxyapatite.
